Perkins Builders have been entrusted to complete a number of projects at Western Australia’s biggest and favourite summertime venue, Adventure World.
EUROFIGHTER ABYSS ROLLER COASTER
Once billed as Australia’s best is the Eurofighter Roller Coaster at Adventure World in Perth. This full site development involved the design and construction of ‘The Station House’ and large ablution block for the new roller coaster at Adventure World. Perkins completed all ground and civil work including 130 large concrete footings at varying levels for the roller coaster to be fixed to. The facility has an internal area that is enclosed for total darkness to fit in with the theme.
KAHUNA FALLS
Kahuna Falls is the biggest water playground in Australia and stands at over 15m tall. With eight slides, numerous water features and an intricate network of levels and walkways not to mention the two giant tipping buckets; the larger bucket tipping 1000L of water over 13m to the surface below making this a unique experience in WA. Every component of this themed water playground arrived in 14 containers from Canada for onsite assembly and installation on top of a concrete base enclosed by a large drainage system that retains and filters all water used.
With this being a one of a kind installation with nowhere in the world having a base like this, it presented a lot of questions, design and coordination. The complex nature of the ‘splash pad’ base and the filtering and drainage system was a challenge from the beginning along with the extension of the plant room to incorporate all the new plant equipment. The short programme in which to develop, construct and commission all of this in time for the parks opening day meant it was all hands on deck and long hours on site. Happily, everything was ready to go a week in advance and the facility was fully tested with a soft opening before the thousands of patrons rolled in a week later and throughout a record breaking summer season for Adventure World.
