Work with Us

You are taking a look at our website, so you might be wondering, why should I consider working for Perkins Builders? Well, we like to think we are a little different to our competitors after speaking with our current employees, and here is why:

Perkins Builders is privately owned and run by a local family living in the South West. There are no shareholders to pay dividends to, and money is reinvested back into the business and the people.

Our Managing Director believes that the people that work at Perkins are the key to its success. So naturally, if our employees succeed, then the business will be able to succeed also. This means we are committed to your development and your goals.

At Perkins, we don’t hire just to fill a position – we treat it as though you are joining our family. So it’s important that we select personnel who will contribute to our team sense of purpose. That’s why we are so particular about who we hire and that’s why it’s important we recruit the right people to fit our business.

We are serious about our commitment to the local and global community. Perkins Builders makes a significant financial and physical commitment to a number of credible non-for-profit organisations doing good in this world. Globally, we’ve worked with foundations in Cambodia to build homes for those living below the poverty line and locally we partner with reputable organisations to achieve growth and positive change in their respective fields.

We are proud of our people and their achievements. Our staff are regularly nominated by management and peers for industry awards to recognise when an individual or a team goes above and beyond.

We care about the health of our employees. Each year all employees are offered skin checks and flu vaccinations. We also regularly participate in charity events focused on health to support important causes, but also to provide staff an opportunity to participate in fitness activities.

We believe you spend too much time at work each week to not have some fun along the way. We celebrate birthdays and staff milestones at monthly morning teas, we hold a variety of social events, catering to staff with families, and single youth in the business to build team culture. We are always coming up with new ways to make the workplace a happy and healthy place to be.

We also to offer a number of great discounts and benefits to our staff, covering all bases:

    • Access to Corporate Discounts for Health & Other Insurance Plans
    • Preferential Banking with our Partners
    • Preferential Vehicle pricing with our Partners
    • Novated Leasing options

We want to see our people grow and succeed in their chosen career path and we have the tools to help our staff do this.

For experienced construction professionals, Perkins have implemented a range of training programmes as well as supporting professional organisation memberships to keep out team up-to-date within our industry. We also place a particular emphasis on selecting the right person for the right project, to help build the capacity of individuals across a range of construction projects.

For those looking to enter the industry, Perkins Builders are committed to playing our part in training the next generation of builders, by offering apprenticeships and traineeships.

We support the goals of our employees, offer training and opportunities for promotion. A number of our long term employees began in a apprenticeship or graduate role and now successfully run projects or departments throughout the organisation.

The Perkins Experience

Starting your Career at Perkins

Perkins Builders has a proud and long-standing commitment to training the next generation of the building and construction industry. From entry level positions such as apprenticeships and traineeships to continued training and upskilling, Perkins offers a wide range of opportunities for staff development.

In Perkins’ over 60 years of business, we have trained over 75 trainees and apprentices and built on the skillset of our workers; we look forward to continuing to do so well into the future and seeing our industry thrive.

Perkins’ apprenticeship program focuses predominantly on Carpentry, with regular reviews to ensure continued growth and learning.

Our apprentices are mentored by our Site Managers to learn valuable on the job skills, whilst completing block units of study at TAFE. To foster a team culture, a focus on safety and encourage further learning, we offer our apprentices comprehensive induction and training on commencement.  This is followed up with in-house training workshops focusing on the competencies and safety requirements of the tasks and equipment an apprentice will be exposed to on our construction sites.

Furthermore, we offer our Apprentices a range of external training courses to further develop their capabilities, for example Working at Heights, EWP, Demolition Awareness and Safe Tilt up courses.  Our apprentices are offered support in a range of topics including site etiquette, communication skills, accessing financial incentives, purchasing tools and equipment and other areas that are identified during our regular review meetings.

A terrific advantage with a Perkins’ apprenticeship is that whilst the trade certificate attained will be for a specific area of expertise, working on our construction sites will see you exposed to all trades and gain a proficient understanding of the construction industry in general.

Within the construction industry there are many diverse roles required to facilitate the building processes seen on site; Perkins acknowledges this and as such offers a range of opportunities in these areas. Traineeships are offered within a variety of our departments including Finance, Contract Administration, Human Resources and general administration.

For over 5 years, Perkins has provided an internship opportunity for a 3rd Year Bachelor of Applied Science (Construction Management and Economic) student from Curtin University to provide them practical and hands on experience, whilst complementing their university studies. These students complete this work experience over the summer holidays, and are often provided casual employment for their final year of university, and a graduate position the following year. We are pleased to see these former students, successfully working in the industry running their own projects and making an impact.

Whether it be out on a construction site or seeing how the office support teams work, Perkins Builders offer work experience positions throughout all facets of our business to allow students the opportunity to test out what it’s like to work in the construction industry before committing to their chosen field and to further their education with on-the-job experience.
